This versatile product is also ideal for lining box castings and for bas relief designs known as kilncarving. It can be used a number of times if it is left in the kiln.
Fibre Paper is excellent for kilncarving, simply cut the fibre using a craft knife and place between the glass and the shelf to add texture to your glass designs. See the Kilncarving Tipsheet for more information. We do not recommend firing the fibre above 804C (for kilncarving) unless you are planning to do some coldworking.
Warm Glass AES fibre paper is a safe alternative to Ceramic Fibre. Our AES range is made from Alkaline-earth Silicate Wool (AES) which does not contain harmful Refractory Ceramic Fibre (which we have never sold). AES is bio-soluble and does not accumulate in the lungs, but it can be an irritant and we recommend wearing gloves and an FFP3 mask when handling, especially after firing.
This is an excellent alternative to ceramic fibre but it will not withstand the higher temperatures required for processes such as pot melts.
Please note: This fibre does not give as smooth a finish as Thinfire Paper. Opal glasses tend to stick to fibre papers more than clear and transparent coloured glasses, for this reason we do not recommend fibre paper is used as a shelf separator unless it is used in combination with another separator such as Thinfire Paper.
