Product Information

Vitracolour Stains are high-quality powdered stains, ideal for adding vibrant, decorative elements to glass projects. When mixed with a water-based medium, these stains are perfect for painting on glass or screen printing, giving powerful, consistent colours that fire to a matte finish. Made in the EU, they are lead-free, ensuring safe and reliable use.

These stains are used in Helen Slater Stokes’ “Screen Printed Imagery in Kiln Formed Glass”, a Live Online Masterclass run by our education partners Glass School.

Specifications & Usage

  • Quantity: 50g per pot
  • Mixing: Combine with a mixing medium to a creamy consistency; only mix what you need to use in a day.
  • Firing Range: 760°C - 804°C
  • Application: Not suitable for direct application on glass unless capped. For best results, cap using clear glass or a layer of clear powder, which helps prevent scratching and ensures food safety. To reduce bubbles, sift clear powder between layers.
  • Handling Precautions: Avoid eating or drinking during use, and wash hands afterward. We recommend wearing gloves and an apron due to strong colour pigmentation and could cause staining.
  • Note: These stains are refractory powders, originally created for ceramics, not enamels.

Benefits

  • These stains bring intense, solid opacity when mixed with a water-based medium.
  • They retain their vibrant colour even when fired up to 800°C, providing consistent results without fading.
  • Mix powdered stains to create a unique palette for varied techniques.
